Schätze des Bibelhauses

The Wiedmann Bible - longest illustrated Bible in the world

The exhibit from February 2020, extended till April 2021 due to the pandemic, displays objects from the Frankfurt Bible Society Treasury as well as the original art work of Willy Wiedmann - the full bible in 3.333 pictures, freshly returned to Germany from the long standing exhibit in the Washington D.C. "Museum of the Bible".

From ancient epigraphics to modern depictions

The treasures of the Frankfurt Bible Society range from inscribed shards to Bibles listed in the Guinness Book of Records. These include ancient writing fragments from Egypt, as well as the so-called Mandela Bible from South Africa, dating from the time of the struggle against apartheid. Visitors could discover the complete Bible on a slide-sized ultrafiche, the world’s longest Bible with numerous interactive elements, and the world’s smallest Bible on a nanochip.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the exhibition was only open to visitors for a limited time.

Bibliophile treasures from past centuries

Among the exhibition’s bibliophile treasures was a single leaf from a Bible by Anton Sorg of Augsburg, which he had printed in 1480. Another original was a Bible by the Basel cloth merchant Falkeisen, which he had printed by the Frankfurt printer Balthasar Christoph Wust in 1688. Bibles from 1820 and 1854 from the Frankfurt “Brönners Druckerei” were on display.
