Luther Bible “last hand” from 1545

2021 04526 Druck Luther1545

In the Bibelhaus you can experience a special treasure of book history: an original Luther Bible from 1545. The third edition of the Bible “auff news zugerichtet” is the last to accompany Luther in its creation. Martin Luther dies on 16 February 1546.

The Bible is printed by Hans Lufft in Wittenberg and features woodcuts by Melchior Schwarzenberg. It is still widely used today as the “last-hand edition”. It was preceded by the so-called September Testament of 1522 and the first complete Luther translation of 1534.

This valuable Bible is in the possession of the Evangelical Parish of Heuchelheim. It is the donation of a private person to the parish.
